CORTLAND, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (7-7-1, 4-7-1 ECAC West) scored two third power-play period goals to earn a 3-1 win at Cortland (2-9-1, 0-7-1) on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward Jenn Crawford and freshman forwardIzzy Fayerman each had a goal and an assist to lead the Bears.

The game started in the same manner as Friday night. Crawford and Potsdam struck first with a one-timer at the 5:16 mark. Senior captain Annmarie Lewis and Fayerman assisted on the goal. Just over six minutes later Brianna Rossi tied the game for the Red Dragons and the score remained that way until the third period.

The two teams battled through the second period, with neither team able to gain the upper hand. Potsdam held a slim 12-10 advantage in shots. Both teams came up empty with their power-play opportunities.

The Bears took control of the contest in the third period, outshooting Cortland 13-3. The teams traded penalties for much of the period, but it was Potsdam who capitalized. At 8:37, sophomore forward Jessica Silveira scored the eventual game-winner on the man advantage. Freshman forward Alexandra Holowka recorded the assist. Fayerman sealed the victory with a power-play marker at 16:26 on assists from Crawford and senior defenseman Breanna Roy.

Sophomore goalie Dawna Salvarinas made 21 saves to earn the victory for Potsdam. Cortland's Katie Double stopped 36 shots.

Potsdam outshot the Red Dragons 39-22 and was 2-7 on the power play. Cortland was 0-5.

“It was an anxiety filled game,” said Bears Head Coach Jay Green. “We scored early and were all over them and then they score on a scramble in front and the momentum changes. It was a weird game where we didn't convert on a lot of opportunities, but it didn't work against us. Overall it was a solid effort by everyone, especially Izzy Fayerman and Jessica Silveira.”

Potsdam, which has now won three in a row, is back in action when Utica invades Maxcy Ice Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21.
