Box Score
A cold shooting spell in the first half and a lack of rebounding hurt the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team as host St. Lawrence defeated the Bears 73-55 on Sunday afternoon at Canton's Burke Gymnasium in a nonconference contest.
After back-to-back buckets from juniors
Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario/ Our Lady of Lordes) and
Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville East) tied the game 8-8, the Saints went on a 23-4 run to close the first half with a 31-12 advantage.
Potsdam (3-4) shot just 5-of-21 (23 percent) from the floor in the opening half and trailed by as many as 32 points with 13:42 left in the game. When Potsdam's shots were not falling, it were having trouble getting to the ball as it was outrebounded 56-27.
Kara McDuffee led with a game-high 14 points for St. Lawrence (2-4) and was joined by three others in double digit scoring as Caroline Dalton (12), Kelly Legg (11) and Cassie St. Hilaire (10) provided an all-around attack.
But the Bears chipped away at the lead and continued to play hard enough to outscore the Saints 19-10 in the final six minutes and 43-42 in the second half.
Senior forward
Jessica Kouzan (Webster, N.Y. / Webster-Schroeder) had 11 points, four rebounds and two steals, but was a victim of turnovers (six) and fouled out.
