Bears fall to Cardinals, 4-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—Plattsburgh State (5-3, 1-0 SUNYAC) edge SUNY Potsdam (4-3-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) en route to a 4-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals got two goals from Lindsey Bushey and one goal from Madeline Saccocio and Cassidy Clavet to elevate past the Bears.

Plattsburgh got on the board in the eight minute, when Bushey's shot deflected off of junior goalie Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) and into the net. The Cardinals dominated the first half of play with 13 shots to the Bears' three. The Bears were deep into their own zone for much of the half.

Bushey stuck again for Plattsburgh just minutes into the second half to put the Cardinals up 2-0. Plattsburgh continued to control and kept the Bears on the defense. At the 59:27 mark, Clavet made the pass across the box to Saccocio and shot for their third goal of the game. Clavet got her own goal in the half, when Ashley Pagano sent a cross through the box Clavet turned and found the back on the net. The Bears struggled to find any offense throughout the game.

Thibeau made 10 saves, while Cardinal goalie Danielle Schmitt stopped four shots for the combined shutout with Jamie Favreau.

Plattsburgh outshot the Bears 31-6 and finished with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bears open up conference play at home when they hope to get back on track against Oswego State on Friday at 4 p.m. at Maxcy Turf Field.
