Knights top Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-15, 0-9 SUNYAC) falters in 69-46 loss to SUNY Geneseo (12-4, 8-1 SUNYAC) Saturday evening. Senior guard Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) led the Bears offensive with 12 points and senior forward Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) added 11 points in the loss.

Both teams battled to get the upper hand during the first nine minutes of the half. At 11:38, sophomore forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) knocked down a jumper to tie the game for the third time at 11 apiece. The Knights' offense picked up, but the Bears managed to keep Geneseo's lead slim until 2:21 Katie Durand drained a three to get their lead to double digits. The Knights took a 12-point advantage into the break while shooting 64-percent from the floor during the half.

The teams went basket-for-basket at the start of the second half and Potsdam couldn't make up any ground. At 12:55, guard Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario/Our Lady of Lourdes) hit a 3-pointer, but Geneseo's offense answered.  The Knights controlled the rest of the half going on an 18-7 run to end the game.

McNamara finished with eight points and junior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) chipped in five points and five rebounds.

The Bears return to the hardwood next weekend when Potsdam takes on Fredonia State Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Buffalo State Saturday at 4 p.m.
