Volleyball splits again on final day of Golden Eagle Invite

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-18) wrapped up play at Brockport's Golden Eagle Invitational with a 3-0 win over Hilbert College (0-22) and a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the hosts (25-1) on Saturday afternoon.
 
Against the Hawks, the Bears registered 25-17, 25-12 and 25-16 set victories. Junior outside hitter Stephanie Maddox (Anaheim, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) led Potsdam's offense with 10 kills. Sophomore utility player Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) and junior outside hitter Whitney Coyle (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) contributed seven kills apiece. Junior libero Maddie Paquin (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) had four aces and 15 digs and Topf added three blocks. Freshman setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) totaled 30 assists. Amanda Binder had nine kills for Hilbert and Morgan Ott chipped in 14 assists.
 
In the finale, Brockport took the match with 25-17, 25-18 and 25-9 wins. Maddox had five kills to go with four each from sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) and Topf. Rodda added another 14 assists and 10 digs and Paquin had a team-high 14 digs. Ashley Capone had 11 kills for the Golden Eagles, while Noelle Poloncarz finished with 30 assists and Kathleen Irwin had 18 digs.
 
The Bears are back in action next weekend when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for their final three conference matches. Potsdam faces the host Blue Knights at 5 p.m. on Friday followed by 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. contests with Fredonia and Oswego on Saturday.
