Strong scoring lifts Hawks over Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.- Strong offense pushes SUNY New Paltz (6-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) to a 89-42 victory over SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-5, 0-2 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Laura Coleman (Manhattan, N.Y./Opportunity Charter) totaled nine points and four rebound to lead the Bears, while five Hawks scored in double digits.

New Paltz dominated the first half, while shooting close to 47-percent from the field and 50-percent from the three-point line. The Hawks continued the hot shooting into the third quarter, but the Bears started to hit their stride in the fourth. Over the first five minutes, senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) started an 8-0 run with a made layup. The run was capped when LaVoie drained a jumper at 5:28. The Hawks closed out the game with a 6-0 run for the 89-42 victory.

LaVoie finished with eight points and seven boards and junior forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) added seven points, seven rebound and two blocks. Jasmine Bryant had a game-high 14 points, while Kit Small and Colleen Ames each had 12.

Potsdam will hit the Saints' hardwood Tuesday to take on St. Lawrence at 7 p.m.
