BUFFALO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (4-12, 0-3 SUNYAC) was edged in SUNYAC matches with SUNY New Paltz (11-6, 3-0) and Plattsburgh State (6-8) this afternoon during conference pool play at Buffalo State. The Bears fell 3-1 to the Hawks and 3-2 to the Cardinals.
Against New Paltz, Potsdam took set two 27-25 but fell 25-11, 25-18 and 25-11 in sets one, three and four, respectively. Sophomore utility player
Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) led the Bears with 11 kills. Junior libero
Sloane Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had four aces and 10 digs. Freshman setter
Brianna Rodda (Holbrook N.Y./Sachem East) recorded 23 assists and 13 digs. Senior libero
Allie Romaniello (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) had a game-high 24 digs. Becca Borquist led the Hawks' attack with 16 kills. She also totaled six aces and 14 digs. Maddie Zwicki posted 50 assists for New Paltz and Anna Paulik finished with 23 digs.
Potsdam jumped out to a 2-1 lead (25-17, 22-25, 25-21) on the Cardinals in the day's finale, but Plattsburgh rallied for victories in the final two sets (25-27, 9-15). Topf again led the Bears with 14 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Kelsey Tompkins (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) followed with 12 kills and junior outside hitter
Stephanie Maddox (Anaheim, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) added 10. Junior libero
Maddie Paquin (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) posted four aces and 11 digs. Rodda totaled 44 more assists and Romaniello contributed a career-high 40 digs.
The Bears are now off until Oct. 7, when they head to St. Lawrence for a 7 p.m. contest with the Saints.
