Golden Eagles down Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-14, 0-8 SUNYAC) fell 73-47 to the College at Brockport (9-6, 5-3) on Friday night at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Freshman guard Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for AECI), senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) and junior guard Abbey LaPage (North Bangor, N.Y./Franklin Academy) each scored nine points for the Bears. Senior forward Oliva Suhr (Rochester, N.Y./Marion) scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds for Brockport, while freshman guard Hannah Spencer (Port Crane, N.Y./Binghamton) finished with 13.
 
The Golden Eagles opened the contest on a 7-2 run over the first 3:47, which included four points from Suhr. Potsdam answered with six straight points to grab the lead on a jumper from junior forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) and consecutive layups from LaVoie. Brockport closed the quarter with a 13-4 run and then seized control of the contest with a 24-8 second quarter advantage. The Golden Eagles led 44-20 at the break.
 
The third quarter was more closely contested with Brockport edging Potsdam 15-10. Junior guard Meghan Driscoll (Troy, N.Y./Troy) had four of the Bears' points. Potsdam outscored the Golden Eagles 17-14 in the final 10 minutes. LaPage hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Clark chipped in five points.
 
Driscoll closed her night with eight points and Dorgler had six. Freshman guard Schyler Laux (Brewerton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) posted seven points for Brockport.
 
The Golden Eagles shot a scorching 57.7-percent from the floor, while holding the Bears to 31.
 
Potsdam hosts SUNY Geneseo tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
