OSWEGO, N.Y.— Freshman midfielder
Ted Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) recorded his first collegiate goal and assist and senior forward
Justin Kellett (Chazy Lake, N.Y./North Country C.C.) netted the game-winner as the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (6-3, 1-2 SUNYAC) defeated Oswego State (3-8, 0-4) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman goalie
Jake Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y/Brockport) finished with four saves to earn his second career victory.
The first half featured even play with strong scoring opportunities by each team. Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) got Potsdam on the board just 5:30 into the game. Sophomore defender
Tyler Mullery (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) fed Bruschini just outside the box. He evaded a slide tackle and beat Laker goalie Jon Runge. Oswego countered with a goal at 19:05 as Alex Sestak finished a feed from Jason Hayes. The shots were 7-7 at halftime.
The Bears regained the lead almost immediately in the second half. Just 43 seconds into the final period, Kellett headed home Potsdam's second marker of the contest. Bruschini assisted on the goal. Oswego prevented Potsdam from adding any insurance and made a final push in the last four minutes. The Lakers took the final four shots of the contest, but Mitchell smothered Sestak's final attempt to tie the game with 1:30 remaining.
Runge made three stops on the afternoon. The Lakers edged Potsdam in shots 14-13.
The Bears look to continue their momentum when they host New Paltz on Friday at 3 p.m.
