POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-23, 1-16 SUNYAC) came up short against SUNY Geneseo (17-7, 11-6 SUNYAC) Friday night with a score of 85-77. The Bears were led by freshman guard
Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) who recorded 22 points, while Justin Ringen finished with a game high 23 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Blue Knights.

Geneseo started strong out of the gate with a 14-2 run before freshman forward
Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) slammed down a dunk to ignite some Potsdam offense. Over the next nine minutes of play, the teams went basket-for-basket with the Blue Knights holding the slight 23-17 scoring advantage. Senior guard
Joe Estramonte (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich Central) scored eight during the duration for the Bears. Onabor hit from behind the arch to start a 14-3 run for Potsdam and the run was capped with a layup from Kane that got Geneseo's lead down to two with 4:15 to go. The Blue Knights pushed out another 10-4 run before the end of the half to take the 43-36 lead into the locker room.

At 16:32, senior guard
Mitch Lamerson (Dansville, N.Y./Dansville) was good for two to bring Geneseo's lead down to one. Play evened out between the teams with the Blue Knight's lead hovering between one and five points over the next four minutes. The Bears got within one again, after a three from Onabor at 12:15 before Potsdam tied the game at 62 apiece with 10 minutes to play. Over the next four minutes, either Geneseo would lead by two or Potsdam would tie the game, but the Bears would never gain the lead until another 3-pointer from Onabor at 4:51. The Blue Knights grabbed the lead back with a layup from Kevin Crockett before freshman forward
Tyrone Adeyeye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) tied the game once more with a layup at 1:39. Following the two points from Adeyeye, Geneseo pulled away in the last 1:30 to take the 85-77 win.

Estramonte finished with 17 points, six assists, four steals and four boards, while Kane added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Adeyeye closed out the leaders with 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. For the Blue Knights, John Decker recorded 19 points and six rebounds and Crockett finished with 15 points.

Potsdam will close out their season tomorrow when the Bears travel to College at Brockport to battle the Golden Eagles at 4 p.m.
