CANTON, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (3-0) swept to 3-0 victories over SUNY Canton (0-1) and Southern Vermont College (0-2) on the first day of the SUNY Canton Invitational. The Bears are now 3-0 and have won all nine sets they've played this season.
 
In the opener, the Bears rolled to 25-20, 25-18 and 25-17 victories. Junior opposite Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska/Chugiak) led the charge with 12 kills and three aces. Freshman outside hitter Gabrielle Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) continued the strong start to her collegiate career with seven kills and 13 digs, while junior outside hitter Kelsea Healis (Rohnert Park, Calif./Rancho Cotate) added six, three blocks and an ace. Sophomore setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded 29 assists, 15 digs and four aces. Senior libero Sloane Campbell (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) contributed 10 digs and junior middle hitter Megan Smith (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) had a game-high four blocks.
 
In the finale, the Bears took 25-12, 25-15 and 25-20 decisions from the Mountaineers. Junior outside hitter Stephanie Maddox (Anaheim, Calif./Cornelia Connelly) paced Potsdam's offense with nine kills, while totaling eight digs. Healis and Scott had five kills each. Rodda added 32 assists, four aces and 10 digs to her day. Senior outside hitter Nikki Wormwood (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) and freshman middle hitter Kendall Brake (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) both had two blocks. Freshmen Lacey Saucier (Williamstown, N.Y./APW) and Sofia Coyle (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) recorded three and two aces, respectively. Senior defensive specialist Whitney Coyle (Middletown, N.Y./Minisink Valley) rounded out the leaders with seven digs.
 
The Bears look to keep their momentum going when they face SUNY Poly tomorrow at noon to close out the tournament.
