The Bears trailed 2-0 just 53 seconds into the contest, but rallied. Lapinski set up O'Connor at 26:40 for Potsdam's first goal. Lapinski fed Newman for her first goal at 24:05. Nicole Stoppelli gave the Golden Eagles one final lead at 21:29, but Potsdam erased it with three straight goals. Newman connected with Lapinski again at 18:16 and with junior attack
Rachael Huntley (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) at 14:55 to give the Bears their first lead of the contest. Lapinski then sent up freshman defender
Kayla McCabe (Watertown, N.Y./General Brown) to make it 5-3. St. Joe's tied the game at 6:35 with goals from Emily Fay and Tricia Barrett. Newman put Potsdam up 6-5 with 30 seconds left in the half.
Newman then opened the scoring in the second half with an assist from O'Connor at 27:06. O'Connor netted her second at 22:35 to make it an 8-5 contest. After Alexis Hillman closed the gap to 8-6, Huntley set up freshman attack
Alli Stark (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) at 12:55 to regain the three-goal advantage. The Golden Eagles made one final push with three goals, including two from Brooke Kreuscher, to tie the score for the final time at 7:10. The Bears outshot the Golden Eagles 27-19 and collected 19 ground balls to St. Joe's 10.
Potsdam is back in action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Bears host St. Lawrence University.
