Murray, Morr lead Bears to 2-1 victory at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y.—Junior midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) had a goal and an assist and senior captain Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) scored to lead the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (7-2-2, 1-0-1 SUNYAC) to a 2-1 victory over SUNY Cortland (5-1, 2-1). Bears freshman goalie Gabby Hobika (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) made 11 saves to earn the win.

Junior midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) tested Red Dragon goalie Danika Svendsen early and Cortland answered with some tough chances on Hobika, but neither keeper cracked. The defenses then clamped down has the half expired with the contest still scoreless.

The Bears finally drew first blood in the 52nd minute. Moving the ball up the left side of the field, senior forward Amber Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) played the ball past a Red Dragon defender and Murray drove it past new Cortland goalie Abby Mills at 51:57 to make it 1-0. In the 85th minute, Morr's hustle created the second tally. Murray send a kick ahead and Morr raced down field, stole the ball from a Red Dragon defender and deposited in the left corner of the net. Cortland answered just 1:02 later. After Hobika stonewalled Vanessa Romero, the rebound ricocheted off a Potsdam defender and into the net to close the gap to 2-1. With a chance to even the game. Hobika stopped Romero again with just 26 seconds remaining to preserve the win.

Svendsen stopped two shots in the first half and Mills allowed two goals and made no saves for the loss in the second half.

With her three points, Murray now ranks 11th on the program's scoring list with 36 (9g, 18a). Morr moves up to 15th place with 31 points (15g, 1a).
