OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-- William Paterson (2-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (2-1) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in the finale of the Old Westbury Labor Day Invitational.
The Pioneers took a 2-0 series lead after winning the first two sets 25-18 and 26-24. The Bears got the edge in tough 27-25 third set before falling in the final set 25-21. Sophomore middle hitter
Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) led Potsdam with 22 kills and two blocks. Freshman outside hitter
Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) had 11 kills, while sophomore outside hitter
Gabby Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) recorded 10 kills, 26 digs, and a block. Senior libero
Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) led the team with four aces and added 13 digs. Senior setter
Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) posted 48 assists and a block.
The Bears are back in action on Friday at 4 p.m. when they travel to Brockport for the Golden Eagle Invitational. Their first opponent is Baldwin Wallace followed by Cazenovia at 6 p.m. Â Â
