Bears fall to Golden Knights, River Hawks

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (3-6) fell in matches with Clarkson University (6-2) and Susquehanna University (6-4) on day one of the Golden Knight Invitational.

In the opener at Clarkson, Bears battled to the end in set one before bowing 25-22. They countered with a 25-21 victory in set two before the Golden Knights claimed sets three and four by 25-21 and 25-10 scores.

Sophomore outside hitter Gabby Scott (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) led the Bears with a game and season-high 16 kills to go with 13 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) had six kills and three aces. Junior libero Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) contributed 29 digs and two assists. Senior libero Maddie Kaplan (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) totaled nine digs and one ace. Senior setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) finished with 29 digs.

In the nightcap, the River Hawks started strong and took the first set 25-12 against the Bears. Potsdam fought in the second and third sets before bowing 25-20, and 25-19.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) had the team high six kills. Scott finished with five kills and three digs, while Rodda had 15 assists, four digs, and a pair of aces. Mack and freshman setter Alyssa Rogers (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian) each had three kills with Rogers adding two blocks.
 
The Bears return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. as they host Stevens College.
