Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport downs Potsdam, 2-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Freshman forward Ayub Jeylani (Rochester, N.Y./Word of Inquiry) scored twice as the College at Brockport (7-2, 2-0 SUNYAC) downed the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-2) 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior goalie Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) made seven saves for the Bears.

The Golden Eagles controlled much of the first half, outshooting Potsdam 8-2 and generating a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. After a few close calls, Brockport finally broke through at 31:29. Jeylani finished a perfect cross from senior midfielder Jayson Hayes (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) to his right. Mitchell had four saves in the first 45 minutes.

The Bears evened the play in the second half, being edged in shots 8-7, but couldn't break through. At 62:19, senior forward and former Bear Connor DeSantis (Rotterdam, N.Y./Mohonasen) found Jeylani as he split the defense and doubled the lead. Potsdam managed to challenge Brockport junior goalie Tautis Ponskaitis (Rochester, N.Y./St. Mairy's C of E) three times in the second half, including a rocket from the top of the box off the foot of Bears senior midfielder Michael Hunter-Wofford (Sacramento, Calif./Orange Coast College) in the 70th minute, but he slammed the door.

Ponskaitis finished with three saves for the shutout. Brockport finished with edges in shots (16-9) and corners (8-3).

Potsdam returns to action next Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bears host Plattsburgh State.
