Cardinals blank Bears, 3-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-10-1, 1-4-0 SUNYAC) fell 3-0 on the road Saturday afternoon in a SUNYAC matchup versus north country rival Plattsburgh State (6-6-0, 4-1-0 SUNYAC). The Cardinals scored once in the first half and cemented the win with two more in the second.

Throughout the first 20 minutes, play was evenly matched on both sides. Both the Bears and the Cardinals were able to develop offensive opportunities. However, Plattsburgh was able to capitalize for the only goal. At the 25:44 mark, Plattsburgh's Devin Lambe found the net behind Potsdam sophomore goalkeeper Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee). The best chances for the Bears came back-to-back, as senior forward Alejandro Callejas (Bayshore, N.Y./Brentwood) and freshman midfielder Justin Lamando (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) each fired shots toward the net less than a minute apart 10 minutes in, but Plattsburgh goalie Ryan Wilson stopped both chances. The teams headed into the break with the score unchanged.

The Cardinals wasted no time adding to their lead in the second half. Just 59 seconds in, Alex Graci netted Plattsburgh's second goal of the contest. Play continued scoreless for the next 27 minutes. With just under 18 minutes remaining in the game, Yusif Okine finished off the scoring with a marker to make it 3-0 Cardinals.

Wilson made three saves in net for the Cardinals to earn the shutout. Callan stopped one shot.

The Bears are back in action next weekend as they host SUNYAC foes Oswego on Friday at 3 p.m. and Cortland on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Bears will honor their graduating class on Saturday against the Red Dragons for Senior Day.
