POTSDAM, N.Y. –The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (5-8, 1-4 SUNYAC) fell 2-1 to Plattsburgh State (6-5-1, 2-2-1 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals received two goals early in the first half from senior forward Katie Matott (Rouses Point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) and sophomore forward Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) respectively. Freshman midfielder
Meaghan Sardi (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) scored her first collegiate goal for the Bears and senior goalie
Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) made seven saves.
Matott got the Cardinals on board as she scored from the goal area on a pass from Seidman at 18:09. Seidman made it a two-goal game with her header shot off a corner kick from junior midfielder Abigail Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton Central) just 5:10 later. The Bears trimmed the lead in half as senior defender
Maeve Morrissey (Champion, N.Y./Copenhagen) sent a cross-field pass it to junior forward
Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) at midfield. Dean dished it to Sardi, who completed the play with a shot off the top right post and in.
Potsdam had opportunities midway through the second half to even the score. Senior midfielder
Ciara Norris (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) nearly tied the game in transition, but a Cardinal defender was there to block the shot. On the other end, Plattsburgh kept the Bears defense busy with its passing. The Cardinals kept the pressure up as time ticked away to close out the 2-1 victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) recorded three saves for the win.
The Bears go on the road next Friday for a meeting with Oswego at 3 p.m.
