Brockport overpowers Bears

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (6-4, 1-2 SUNYAC) scored four first half goals en route to a 5-1 win over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-8-1, 1-2) on Friday afternoon. Freshman midfielder Justin Lamando (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) scored for the Bears.

The Golden Eagles scored on their first two shots of the game. Jason Hayes scored just 31 seconds into the contest and Zach Langelotti struck at 2:24. After Bears sophomore goalkeeper Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) stopped the next two shots, Lamando buried a feed from senior forward Alejandro Callejas (Bayshore, N.Y./Brentwood) at 14:51 to close the gap. However, Potsdam wasn't able to get equalizer and Brockport netted the next two goals in a 3:54-span. DJ Taylor made it 3-1 at 25:10 and Jeff Hibbard added a fourth goal at 29:04. Potsdam trailed by three at the break.

The Golden Eagles kept the pressure up in the second half. Matthew Stefaniw netted the game's final marker at 58:53. Brockport matched its first half shot total with eight more in the second.

Callan finished with three saves and Golden Eagles goalie Joseph Romano stopped two shots for the win.

The Bears look to bounce back at Geneseo tomorrow at 1 p.m.
