Mustangs top Bears on Day 1 of Skidmore Invite, 3-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Morrisville State (20-6) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (10-15) 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 23-25, 25-13) on the Day 1 of the Skidmore Invitational. Junior captain Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) had 10 kills to lead the Bears and freshman outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) finished with seven kills and six digs.
 
Junior captain Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) had five kills and seven blocks for the Bears. Freshman setter Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) totaled 26 assists and two blocks and senior captain Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) had 14 digs. Senior outside hitter Xanara Ruiz (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) contributed nine digs and an aces and freshman middle hitter Caitlin Retzlaff (Milton, Fla./Pace) had two blocks.
 
Megyan Merrill paced the Mustangs with 17 kills and 13 digs and Amelia Baratier had 15 kills and 17 digs. Kristen Florio posted 11 kills three aces and a block. Siobhan Moore recorded 42 assists and Anna Salamino had 13 digs and two aces.
 
The Bears wrap up the season tomorrow with two matches. They face the host Thoroughbreds at 10 a.m. and Union College at noon.
