COBLESKILL, N.Y.-- SUNY Oneonta (12-15-1, 7-5 SUNYAC) used defense and the power of the bat to take the double header from the SUNY Potsdam softball team (5-21, 0-12 SUNYAC) with 7-0 and 8-2 scores. Sophomore catcher
Shelby Van Epps (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two. Junior captain
Lucy Condon (Kitchener, Ontario/St. David Catholic) went 1-for-4 with a run scored, and sophomore right fielder
Jen Darlak (Lockport, N.Y./Wilson) went 2-for-2 during the second game.
In the opener, the Red Dragons used a four-run sixth inning and a no-hitter from Alyssa Bluethgento to get the victory. Oneonta gave Bluethgen insurance early in the first scoring twice off a ground out and a single. The Red Dragons got another run in the fourth following another ground out. They extended their lead to seven in the sixth with a single from Darian Wood and a three-run home run by Amanda Sexton. Oneonta took game one, 7-0.
Junior
Megan Fish (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) (2-7) got the loss after pitching a complete game, allowing seven runs and striking out one. Bluethgen struck out nine and walked two during her no-hitter.
The Bears got things rolling in the top of the first with a one-out Condon triple. Following the triple, Van Epps singled to right field to score Condon. In the top half of the second, Potsdam got another run on the scoreboard. Junior shortstop
Sarah Hyland (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) started the inning working a walk. Freshman
Vanessa Brandt (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) came in to pinch run for Hyland. After Brandt stole second, Darlak sacrifice bunted to advance Brandt to third. Brandt scored on a Red Dragon error during senior center fielder
Brooke Falsion's (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) at-bat. Oneonta took the lead in the bottom third from a grand-slam off the bat of Lauren Sabatino. Later in the inning, Capozucca had a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it a 6-2 lead. The Bears got runners on second and third in the top of the fourth but could not get them any closer to home, keeping the deficit at four. The Red Dragons tacked on another run in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Caroline Koch, and one in the sixth with a Megan Palmatier double to left. Potsdam could not retaliate and Oneonta took game two 8-2.

Alissa McCauley (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) (2-8) got the loss after pitching 2.2 innings, allowing six runs and striking out one. Sophomore
Kiera Nesbitt (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) pitched one third of an inning and freshman
Sierra Ashley (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) pitched three innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Julia Calabro got the win, pitching six innings allowing one earned run on five hits, and struck out two. Capozucca pitched the last inning and allowed two hits.
The Bears are back in action on Monday when they travel to take on New Paltz in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
