OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (5-3, 2-2 SUNYAC) used a big first half and staved off a late charge by the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (3-8, 1-4) to claim a 15-11 victory on Saturday afternoon. Senior captain Cayla O'Connor (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) scored four goals for the Bears, giving her 110 points for her career and tying her for seventh on the program's scoring list with Maribeth Simmons '12. Freshman midfielder Calena Rodriguez (Albany, N.Y./Albany) and sophomore midfielder Zoe Morgenroth (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each scored twice and senior captain Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) finished with 12 saves.
 
The Lakers opened the contest on a 6-1 run, including two goals from both Brigid Regin and Kamryn Sherman. O'Connor got the Potsdam on the board with a free-position marker at 22:23 to make it 3-1. O'Connor netted another free-position goal at 18:01 and freshman midfielder Calena Rodriguez (Albany, N.Y./Albany) added one at 13:28 to get the Bears within 6-3. After the back-to-back goals, Oswego closed the half with a 5-1 stretch on three goals from Teresa Shattuck and two more from Sherman. Sophomore midfielder Zoe Morgenroth (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) scored Potsdam's fourth goal of the contest at 7:40 and the Bears trailed 11-4 at the break.
 
The Bears rallied in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 7-4. Potsdam traded the first four goals with Oswego. O'Connor struck at 20:10 and Rodriguez at 16:34 and the Lakers led 12-6. After Sherman notched her fifth of the day three minutes later, junior attack Ashley Burrowes (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) made the most of a free-position opportunity at 10:05 and fellow junior attack Alli Stark (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda) scored at 9:28. Molly Beck extended the Lakers' advantage back to 14-8 at 6:28, but Potsdam quickly cut it half with three in-a-row. O'Connor scored her fourth at 4:53, Morgenroth her second at 3:52 and senior captain Meaghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) got Potsdam within 14-11 at 2:59. However, Oswego held on and Riley Jaquin cemented the win with an man-up goal with 31 seconds remaining.
 
Elianna Sanchez earned the win between the pipes after allowing 10 goals and making seven saves in the first 56:08. Paige Noel allowed one goal in the last 3:52.
 
Paige collected four ground balls and caused four turnovers for Potsdam and O'Connor continued to dominate on the draw with 14 draw controls. Longamore also matched a game-high with six ground balls.
 
The Bears begin a three-game homestand with a 4 p.m. contest against SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday.
