WENHAM, MASS.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (1-2) defeated the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (0-3) 3-0 and fell to host Gordon College (2-0) 3-0 on the second day of the Gordon College Invitational.
The Bears downed the Trailblazers in straight sets by 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23 scores. Junior captain
Nicole Hansen led Potsdam's offense with seven kills and two aces and junior outside hitter
Nicole Ramirez (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) registered six. Junior captain
Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) totaled four kills and two blocks. Freshman setter
Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) finished with 17 assists, five digs and a block. Freshman outside hitter
Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) added two blocks and nine digs. Senior captain
Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) posted 19 digs and two aces.
The weekend finale against the Fighting Scots was a tight contest, but Gordon took 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20 set wins for the victory. Mack picked up seven more kills and sophomore outside hitter
Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) had four. Hansen added five more kills and five digs to her day. Jones had 20 assists and two aces. Ader totaled an ace and five digs. Magallon finished with a game-high 15 digs and freshman middle hitter
Caitlin Retzlaff (Milton, Fla./Pace) added two blocks.
The Bears are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. for their home opener when they host Maine-Fort Kent for the first of two matches.
