Panthers, Saints top Bears

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (3-6) was defeated by Middlebury College (4-2) 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-20) and St. Lawrence University (10-1) 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) on both ends of a tri-match on Saturday. The Saints rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Panthers 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-12) in the middle match.
 
Against Middlebury, Freshman outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Bears with a career-high nine kills. Junior captain Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) had seven kills, 14 digs and an assist. Freshman setter Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) totaled 23 assists, two aces and eight digs. Junior captain Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) contributed five blocks, four kills and an assist, while senior captain Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) had a game-high 27 digs along with an ace.
 
Hansen paced Potsdam in its match with SLU with eight kills, nine digs and an assist. Freshman outside hitter Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) added four kills and three digs. Jones had 21 more assists, four digs and two aces. Mack continued her strong play at the net with three more blocks, while picking up three more kills. Ader had two kills, two aces and six digs. Magallon edged her first game dig total with 28.
 
The Bears open up SUNYAC play on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they head to Plattsburgh State to face the North Country rival Cardinals.
