PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (4-6, 1-0 SUNYAC) opened conference play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) victory over North Country rival Plattsburgh State (4-8, 0-1) on the road. Freshman outside hitter
Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Bears with a career-high 11 kills and 10 digs.
Potsdam was able to hold off the Cardinals in three tight sets with multiple strong contributions. Sophomore outside hitter
Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) recorded a season-best nine kills. Freshman outside hitter
Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) picked up six kills and four digs. Junior captain
Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) totaled five kills and 17 digs and freshman middle hitter
Caitlin Retzlaff (Milton, Fla./Pace) also had five kills. Freshman setter
Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) had a career-high 37 assists along with nine digs and two blocks. Senior captain
Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) posted 22 digs, three aces and two kills.
Megan Hyde led the Cardinals with nine kills and 10 digs. Rachel Mennonna and Michelle Simmons each recorded seven kills, while Mennonna also had 15 digs. Alyssa Rock recorded 13 assists and nine digs. Brianna Coon totaled eight assists and 12 digs and Abby Bone finished with nine digs.
The Bears are back in action when they head to the Alfred University Saxons Classic on Friday. Potsdam faces Lebanon Valley at 6 p.m. and Grove City at 8 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the Bears battle the host Saxons at 11 a.m. and Hilbert at 1 p.m.
