Bears split with Saxons, Hawks on final day of Saxon Classic

ALFRED, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-8) fell to Alfred University (7-10) 3-0 (23-25, 20-25, 23-25) before rebounding to defeat Hilbert College (0-10) 3-0 (25-10, 25-3, 25-17) on the final day of the Saxon Classic.
 
Freshman outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) led the Potsdam charge again against the Saxons, recording nine kills and six digs. Sophomore outside hitter Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) was solid with seven kills, while freshman outside hitter Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) and junior captain Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) each posted six kills. Hansen also added 13 digs, two aces and two assists. Freshman setter Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) finished with 17 assists, three kills and two digs. Senior setter Dahlia Rafael-Tirado (Warwick, R.I./Classical) had her best match as a Bear with 11 assists, five digs and an ace. Senior captain Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) totaled 21 digs and senior outside hitter Xanara Ruiz (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) had seven.
 
In the finale with the Hawks, freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Fischer (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley) posted a career-high six kills, matching Myers and freshman middle hitter Caitlin Retzlaff (Milton, Fla./Pace). Fischer also had a personal best 12 digs. Rafael-Tirado picked up seven aces and 19 assists and freshman defensive specialist Enma Bautista (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) recorded two aces and an assist. Magallon wrapped up her weekend with nine digs.
 
The Bears are back in action when they head to Geneseo on Friday to face the Blue Knights at 6 p.m. They then head to Brockport on Saturday to square off with the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m.
