Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blue Devils down Bears, 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Fredonia (4-4-2, 1-1 SUNYAC) scored three first half goals to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (3-7-1, 1-1) 3-1 on Friday afternoon. Senior forward Alejandro Callejas (Bayshore, N.Y./Brentwood) scored for the Bears.

Potsdam's sophomore goalkeeper Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and Fredonia senior keeper Ty Bentham (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) traded big saves early, but the game didn't stay scoreless for long. At 22:33, freshman defender Colin Merkey (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) buried a cross from sophomore forward Colin Teelin (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) to make it 1-0 Blue Devils. Just over four minutes later, junior midfielder Jackson Retzer (Bowmansville, N.Y./Williamsville North) was awarded a penalty kick and deposited the ball into the right corner of the net. At 14:38, senior forward Chad Gilson (Olcott, N.Y./Newfane) headed home a cross from freshman midfielder Parker Ange (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Odessey) to make it 3-0. The score was unchanged at the break.

The Bears wasted no time closing the gap in the second half. Junior midfielder Rob Dulanto (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) started a run up the field with a pass to senior forward Teddy Bruschini (Wilton, N.Y./South Glens Falls) at midfield. Bruschini then hit Callejas in stride, who fought off two Blue Devil defenders before beating Bentham with a rocket. The remainder of the half grew increasingly physical, with 21 fouls called, but the score was unchanged at the 90-minute mark.

Callan finished with seven saves, while Bentham earned the win with two.

The Bears are back in action when they head to Brockport on Friday for a 4 p.m. contest.
