HENNIKER, N.H.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-2) shook off an early deficit to defeat Roger Williams University (0-3) 5-1 in the first round of the New England College Tournament. Junior forward Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) and sophomore forward Mackenzie Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) each scored twice and junior defender Maeve Morrissey (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) provided a goal. Senior goalkeeper Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) made four saves for her 16th career win. With her six-point performance (2g, 2a), Dean moves into eighth place on the program's scoring list with 48 points.

Leah Yucius got the Hawks on the board first with a marker at the 9:35 mark. The lead lasted for exactly 5:10. Morrissey evened the score at 14:45 with an assist from sophomore midfielder Hannah Dentel (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon). Dean buried the next two in a row at 21:00 and 40:34. With 5:13 left in the half, Dean connected with Bowie for her first strike of the game and a 4-1 Bears advantage. Potsdam outshot Rogers Williams 11-5 in the first half.

Dean and senior captain Ciara Norris (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) set up Bowie's second marker at 61:51. The Bears locked the game down defensively after their fifth goal. The Hawks finished the half with an 11-9 edge in shots and 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, but were unable to get any closer.

Roger Williams goalie Morgan Strassburg finished with 10 saves. Potsdam outshot the Hawks 20-16 and Roger Williams had eight corner kicks to the Bears six.
