JOHNSON, VT. – The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (1-0) opened their inaugural season at Northern Vermont University – Johnson (0-1) on Friday night, defeating the Badgers in straight sets (25-19,25-22, 25-14).
In the Bears first ever contest, freshman opposite
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) led the way with 11 digs and 10 kills. Sophomore setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) had a strong showing as he recorded 13 assists and 5 aces. Freshman libero/outside hitter
Kiernan Morgan (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North) chipped in five kills, two assists and two digs. Senior outside hitter
Saluhu Malam (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) tallied two kills, and four digs. Junior outside hitter
Ernest Sosa (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) had three digs for the Bears.
For the Badgers, Ryan Willette led the team with four kills, three aces, five digs, and two blocks. Jesse Streeter recorded six kills, Jason Madrid tallied 12 assists and four digs and Dominic Phelps contributed two kills and two digs.
The Bears are back in action on February 1, as they head to the Ramapo Tri-Match where they will face off with Emmanuel and the host Roadrunners.
