POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (4-10) defeated Northern Vermont University-Johnson (5-10) 3-0 in the program's first ever home opener. Sophomore setter
Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) led the Bears with 22 assists and three blocks, six digs and an ace.
The Bears captured the sets by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and rallied late for a 25-23 win in the finale.
Freshman outside hitter
Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) paced Potsdam in kills with eight. He also had nine digs, two blocks and an ace. Junior middle hitter
Brendan Wall (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had seven kills. Junior outside hitter
Ernest Sosa (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Leadership Academy) had six kills and a block. Senior outside hitter
Saluhu Malam (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) contributed two blocks.
Freshman setter Jason Madrid (Aurora, Colo./Eaglecrest High School) led the Badgers with 18 assists, four digs and an ace. Senior middle hitter Michael Weston (West Greenwich, R.I./Exeter West Greenwich) had seven digs and a block. Junior outside hitter Ryan Willette (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) had six kills alongside his brother Randy, who had three kills. Freshman outside hitter Dominic Phelps (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndon Institute) had six digs.
The Bears are back in action on Friday March 6, when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to face D'Youville College at 6 p.m.
