James Maltes opened the scoring at 37:06 with an assist from Thomas O'Neill. The Bears trailed 1-0 at the half despite allowing just three shots.
Nearly three minutes into the second half, at 47:52, Brandon Davenport buried the eventual game-winner with helpers from Joseph DiPreta and Owen McGarrity. Gerbasi cut the lead in half at 59:19 with an assist from freshman midfielder
Zach Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville). However, Davenport answered at 71:30 with his second goal of the contest on DiPreta's second assist.
Hawks goalie Marc DePasquale didn't make a save in the contest.
Potsdam heads to Oneonta State tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. for a battle with the nation's fifth-ranked Red Dragons.
