Geneseo overpowers Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team (10-2-1, 5-0-1) defeated SUNY Potsdam (6-7-0, 2-5-0) 6-0 on Friday evening. The Knights' offense was led by senior forward Nicole Bell (Victor, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) who registered a hat trick during tonight's contest.

About 22 minutes into the first half, senior midfielder Hannah Sullivan (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) scored an unassisted goal to catch an early 1-0 lead. Roughly 10 minutes later, Bell scored her first when she slipped a shot past a Bears defender, putting the Knights up 2-0 going into the half.

The Knights continued their offensive attack into the second half. In the 48th minute, sophomore forward Liv Raucci (Rotterdam, N.Y./Mohonasen) scored off an assist from junior forward McKinley Skala (East Quogue, N.Y./Westhampton Beach), giving the Knights the 3-0 lead. Nearly 13 minutes later, Raucci scored her second goal of the game off a well-timed assist from teammate Sullivan. This was Geneseo's fourth goal of the game. Off a quick turnaround, Bell then put the Knights up 5-0 with an assist from junior midfield Lauren Wozny (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East). Five minutes later, the Bears committed a foul in the 18-yard box, resulting in a penalty kick. Bell converted the opportunity, giving the Knights six goals on the night and sealing the victory for Geneseo.

Bears sophomore goalie Chloe Gordon (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) turned aside seven shots. Knights junior goalie Angel Bennett (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) stopped four shots.

The Bears are back at home tomorrow when they face the College at Brockport at 1 p.m. at Maxcy Hall Turf Field.
