Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Golden Eagles top Bears, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (7-7-2, 3-3-1 SUNYAC) scored in the 61st minute to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (6-8, 2-6) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman goalkeeper Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) made seven saves for the Bears.

After thunderstorms pushed the start of the game back to 4 p.m., Brockport controlled the play in the first half and created multiple scoring opportunities. However, Potsdam's defense held and Bowie made five saves to keep the contest scoreless at the break.

The Bears evened out the play in the second half, with freshman forward Layla McKeiver (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) creating the first chance. The shot sailed just right of the right goalpost and the game remained scoreless. The Golden Eagles finally broke though off a corner kick at 60:26. Junior midfielder Julia Mascaro (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) launched the corner into a crowd in front of the net and junior forward Lara Kanbur (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) knocked it into the net. After the goal, Brockport's defense clamped down again, tying up the Bears in the midfield.

Potsdam is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when the Bears host Castleton University in a nonconference matchup at 4 p.m.
