Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brockport rallies past Potsdam, 2-1

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Freshman midfielder Owen Santos (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) scored his first collegiate goal to give the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-11-2, 0-8 SUNYAC) a 1-0 lead, but the College at Brockport (6-6-1, 2-5) rallied for a 2-1 victory. In his first college action, Bears freshman goalkeeper Dan Schaeber (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made seven saves.

Potsdam was able to generate pressure and stay on the attack for much of the first half. The Bears outshot the Golden Eagles 10-7 in the opening 45 minutes and jumped on the board first. At 16:38 a shot from Potsdam freshman midfielder Nick Intrabartolo (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) was stopped by Brockport keeper Andrew Taylor. The ball was deflected across the end line, earning the Bears a corner kick. Freshman midfielder Zach Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville) then sent the kick into the melee in front of the net and Santos buried his first career goal. However, the Golden Eagles evened the score about 12 minutes later. At 29:40, Hunter Kassel scored on a feed from Matthew Stefaniw and Seamus Parker to make it 1-1. Taylor made four more saves in the half to keep his team in the contest. Potsdam senior goalie Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) left the game after just 1:15 due to a red card and Schaeber played the rest of the contest, stopping two shots to preserve the tie at the break.

The defenses didn't allow many shots during the second half, but those that were generated were mostly on goal. Schaeber made five more saves in the final period, but the Eagles were able to solve him a final time. At 79:01, Zach Langelotti scored the game-winner with an assist from Stefaniw. With just 4:16, remaining, Taylor stopped a header from Justin Mossey (Amity Harbor, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and closed the door on the victory.

Taylor finished with nine saves for Brockport. Potsdam outshot the Golden Eagles 15-13 on the day.

The Bears are back in action next Saturday when they head to Plattsburgh for a 1 p.m. contest.
