Bears grind out 3-1 victory over Kangaroos on Senior Night

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (6-13, 1-8 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos (2-22) on 3-1 on Senior Night. The Bears took an early lead beating the Kangaroos 25-20, but Canton answered in the second set with a 26-24 victory. Potsdam went on two win the next two sets 25-12 and 25-14.
 
Junior middle hitter Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz/Deer Valley) led Potsdam with 12 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) added 10 kills and a block. Senior middle hitter Caitlin Retzlaff (Milton, Fla./Pace) also contributed eight kills, one ace and four assists. Senior setter Alyssa Rogers (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian) had a game-high 27 assists and four aces. Rogers also contributed 13 digs and senior libero Nikki Ramirez (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) had 15 digs, four assists and three kills on the night.
 
For the Kangaroos, Alyssa Adams had a team-high 12 kills, while Emily Dreyer and Cassidy Werner both contributed five kills apiece. Bailey Nadeau had 12 assists and Peyton Nadeau added 18 digs.
 
Prior to the contest, Potsdam honored seniors Ramirez, Price, Rogers and Retzlaff for their Bears careers.
 
The Bears are back in action on Friday, October 29 at Skidmore College where they will compete in the Skidmore Invitational. The Bears will square off against Skidmore College at 7 p.m. on Friday. They then face Sage College at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by Union College at 3 p.m.
