Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Blue Devils defeat Bears

FREDONIA, N.Y.—Fredonia (4-2, 2-0) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (0-5, 0-5) 6-1 on Friday night. Senior goalie Michael Paglucca (North Reading, Mass./New Hampshire Avalanche) made 32 saves for the Bears and senior forward Robert Clerc (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Oswego State) scored Potsdam's goal.

Potsdam pressed Fredonia from the outset in the first period. However, the Blue Devils were able to jump out in front. David Sudbrink opened the scoring at 7:07 to give Fredonia a 1-0 lead. The Bears continued to test Blue Devils goalie Logan Dyck as the period went on, but he repeatedly frustrated them. Ryan Bailey doubled the Fredonia lead at 17:45. Potsdam outshot the Blue Devils 18-16 through one period, but trailed by two. Paglucca stopped 14 shots and Dyck made all 18 saves.

The contest remained tightly contested in the second period with the goaltenders consistently under fire. Again, it was Fredonia extending its lead. At 18:31, Bailey notched his second, this time on the power play. Paglucca made 12 more saves in the second period, but Potsdam trailed 3-0.

Clerc finally got the Bears on the board with a power-play goal at 7:37. The Blue Devils answered with their own power-play marker from Bryce Witman just 35 seconds later. Fredonia tacked on a fifth goal from Kurri Woodford at 9:56 to make it 5-1. With 57 seconds on the clock, Sudbrink closed the scoring with his second of the night.

Dyck made 35 saves to earn the win. Fredonia was 2-for-5 on the power play and the Bears were 1-for-5.

Potsdam is back in action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when the Bears head to Buffalo State.
