Bengals overpower Bears

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (3-5, 2-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (0-6, 0-6) 7-1 on Saturday night. Junior forward Nick Alfieri (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) scored his first career goal for the Bears.
 
Alfieri gave Potsdam a 1-0 lead at 15:30 of the first period with an assist from freshman forward Josh Bifolchi (Ottawa, Ontario/Mississauga Chargers). Junior goalie Connor Green (New Port Richey, Fla./Tampa Bay Juniors) stopped seven shots in the opening 20 minutes and the Bears led after one.
 
Anthony Morin tied the game at 6:17 of the second period. Joel Frazee scored the eventual game-winner at 15:29. Green stopped nine more shots in the middle stanza to keep Potsdam within one.
 
Buffalo State broke the game open with five third period goals, including two on the power play. Andrew Logar made it 3-1 on the man advantage at 2:22. Frazee netted his second at 5:59 and completed his hat trick at 13:30. The Bengals then tacked on two more in the last minute. Parker Allison buried another power-play goal with 53 seconds left. Matt Pasic closed the scoring with an even-strength tally with 24 seconds on the clock.
 
Green finished with 30 saves. Buffalo State goalie Connor Minch made 28 saves for the win. The Bengals were 2-for-5 on the power play and the Bears were 0-for-5.
 
The Bears are back in action next weekend at the SUNY Canton Tournament. Potsdam plays Hamilton College Saturday at 4 p.m.
