Bears bow to Hawks in SUNYAC contest

POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY New Paltz (1-1, 1-1 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) 25-3 on Monday afternoon. Sophomore attack Hannah Stevenson (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams), junior attack Macy Reid (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and senior midfielder Keira Thacker (Oakville, Ontario/T.A. Blakelock) each scored for the Bears. Sophomore goalie Netta Terrance (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) made nine saves.
 
New Paltz opened the contest with a 5-0 run and never looked back. Hawks senior attack Tara Bovich (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) led all scorers with seven points on three goals and four assists. Junior attack Maddie Carullo (River Vale, N.Y./Pascack Valley) scored four goals and added two assists for six points. Junior attack Katie Zito (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem) also registered six points with three goals and three assists. Senior attack Amy Hofer (Newfield, N.Y./Newfield) rounded out the leaders with four goals and an assist for five points. Senior goalie Haley Timarky (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) made one save an allowed a goal in the first 30 minutes for the win. Freshman goalie Hailey Abner (Denville, N.J./Morris Knolls) made five saves and allowed two goals in the second half.
 
Potsdam freshman midfielder Novaleigh LeGrow (Massena, N.Y./Massena) had three ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Stevenson finished with three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover. Freshman midfielder Lindsey LaDue (Massena, N.Y./Massena) collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
 
The Bears head to New Paltz to complete the season series with the Hawks on Thursday at 4 p.m.
