DELHI, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (0-1-2) fought to a 1-1 draw at SUNY Delhi (0-2-1) on Friday afternoon. Sophomore defender
Raymond Jones (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) scored for the Bears and senior goalie
Conor Callan (Piermont, N.Y./Tappan Zee) assisted on the goal and made four saves.
Potsdam controlled the play in the first half outshooting the Broncos 14-2. The Bears continually tested Delhi goalie Jonathan Walch as the period wound down and finally broke through late. The Broncos were whistled for a foul with less than two minutes left. At the 43:19 mark, Jones buried the third goal of his career off a long free kick from Callan and the Bears took the lead into the break.
Delhi reversed the situation in the second half, but scoring quality opportunities remained hard to come by. The Broncos outshot the Bears 8-3, but only managed to get three shots through to Callan. However, Delhi got the equalizer with 2:10 left in regulation as Michael Williams Jr. knocked home a loose ball in front of the goal off a throw in from the far side of the field.
Potsdam doubled up the Broncos in shots in the two overtime periods, 4-2. Walch made two saves in the extra sessions and Callan made one.
The Bears finished with a 21-12 advantage in shots and the corner kicks were even at seven apiece. Walch finished with nine saves.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow, when they travel to Alfred State for a 2:30 p.m. contest with the Pioneers.
