Bears split with Cards & Pioneers at Oswego Invite

OSWEGO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (4-4) fell to St. John Fisher College (6-3) 3-0 (15-25, 21-25, 15-25) before rebounding to defeat Utica College (3-6) 3-2 (22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 30-32, 15-12) on the final day of the Oswego State Invitational. Junior outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
 
Against the Cardinals, Ader led the Bears with nine kills and was credited for eight digs. Senior captain Nikki Ramirez (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) posted 16 digs, while Freshman setter Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y/Shenendehowa) had 10 assists and two kills.

In the finale with the Pioneers, Ader posted 15 kills and eight digs. Sophomore outside hitter Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) posted an impressive game-high and career-high 18 kills. Junior Alyssa Rogers (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian) posted a personal best 26 assists, 15 digs and four kills. Junior outside hitter Abygail Olejnik (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) had six kills, three assists, four aces and 23 digs against the Pioneers. Junior outside hitter Mackenzie Fischer (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley) put up a personal best 14 digs and Ramirez had a kill, five assists, three aces and a career-high 34 digs.
 
The Bears are back in action when they head to SUNY Oneonta to face the Red Dragons in conference play at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24.
