Oswego downs Bears in OT, 1-0

OSWEGO, N.Y.—Oswego State (3-2, 1-1 SUNYAC) scored in the 102nd minute to defeat the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (4-4. 0-2) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The first half was a defensive battle, with the teams combining for just eight shots. Bears sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Gordon (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North) made two saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Laker goalie Haley Muehl stopped one shot. The contest was scoreless at the half.

The offenses started to pick up in the second half. The Lakers outshot the Bears 10-7, but neither team could find the back of the net. Gordon and Muehl each made three more saves in the period to send the contest into overtime.

Potsdam had Oswego on its heels in the first overtime, firing four times. Muehl needed three more stops to extend the contest. Gordon didn't face a shot in those 10 minutes. However, Maggie Riordan netted the decisive tally just 1:19 into the second overtime on the Lakers only opportunity.

Potsdam outshot Oswego 17-15 on the afternoon and the Lakers had eight corners to the Bears seven.

Gordon finished with five saves and Muehl made seven for the shutout victory.

The Bears are back action on Friday, October 1, when they host SUNY New Paltz at 4 p.m.
