Bears sweep on final day of Saxon Classic

ALFRED, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (2-2) swept host Alfred University  and SUNY Canton (0-3) on final day of the Saxon Classic. The Bears downed the Saxons (1-2) 3-1 (25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21) and the Kangaroos by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13) score.
 
In the opener against the Saxons, the Bears took the first two sets before capturing the match in fourth set. Sophomore outside hitter Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) led the Bears with 15 kills. Myers also had 13 digs, two assists and a block. Freshman outside hitter Megan Henry registered eight kills against Alfred. Junior outside hitter Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) received 11 kills, while both Ader and senior libero Nikki Ramirez (West Covina, Calif./Bishop Amat) totaled 21 digs. Junior Alyssa Rogers (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian) posted a career-best 19 assists and freshman setter Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y/Shenendehowa) recorded 20 assists.
 
Junior outside hitter Rylee Russin led the Saxons with 13 kills and two blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Jamie Chun (Hilo, Hawaii/Hilo) racked up nine kills, three aces and 19 digs. Senior setter Lucy McCredie had a game-high of 21 assists and junior defensive specialist Darian Ortiz was credited with 21 digs.
 
In game two, the Bears defeated the Kangaroos in three sets. Ader had 11 kills and two aces, while freshman middle Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) posted six kills. Myers had six kills, two blocks and 10 digs against Canton. Ramirez posted four aces, three assists and nine digs. Murphy had 12 assists and Rogers earned 11 assists.
 
For Canton, freshman Alyssa Adams had five kills and three blocks, while freshman middle Cadin Taggart had three kills and six digs. Senior libero Nicole O'Connor received two aces and five digs for the Kangaroos. Sophomore setter Bethine Grattan had nine digs and one ace and sophomore setter Michaella DeCapua had seven assists.
  
The Bears are back in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host Cazenovia College at home.
