Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Oswego overpowers Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Oswego State (3-4-1, 1-2 SUNYAC) scored five second half goals en route to a 6-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-3-3, 0-2-2) on Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers held the edge in play in the first half and made the most of an early opportunity.
Senior defender Caleb Munski (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) launched a long ball into the box and freshman defender Nikola Kovacevic (Commack, N.Y./Commack) headed it into the net at 10:09. Schiel and Potsdam's defense limited Oswego opportunities the rest of the half, but the Bears trailed 1-0 at the break.

Junior midfielder Kieran Gilroy (North Bellmore, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) made it 2-0 just 55 seconds into the second half. Less than two minutes later, junior defender Liam Rothar (Dix Hills, N.Y./Commack) struck to extend the lead to three. Oswego then put the game out of reach with two goals in 1:14. Sophomore midfielder Kyle Gehnrich (Commack, N.Y./Commack) scored at 52:41 and Gilroy netted his second at 53:55. David Cadet closed the scoring at 73:35.

Junior goalkeeper Lucas Schiel (Bremen, N.Y./Colegio Humboldt) made three saves and allowed five goals for the Bears in the first 55:32. Freshman Ian Schwartz (Amsterdam, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) made a save and gave up a goal in the last 34:28. Andrew Bourjolly (Queens, N.Y./Bard Early College) earned the win for the Lakers with two saves in the first 76:42. Junior Finnian Costello (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) also stopped two shots in the last 13:18 to preserve the shutout.

Next, the Bears head to SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday, to take on the 14th ranked Red Dragons at 4 p.m.
