Bears tame Wildcats on Senior Night, 3-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (14-11) defeated Cazenovia College (9-16) 3-1 on Wednesday night. On Senior Night, senior outside hitter Abygail Olejnik (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) led the Bears with a career-high 10 kills along with 16 digs. Senior captain Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) contributed eight kills, seven aces, two blocks and five assists.
 
The Bears rolled to 25-15 and 25-18 wins in sets one and two. The Wildcats stopped their momentum with a 25-21 set three win, but Potsdam rebounded to close out the match with a 25-14 set four victory. Senior outside hitter Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) posted six kills and senior setter Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) had personal-best 32 assists and nine digs. Senior defensive specialist Marley Hawthorne (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) added three aces and nine digs.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Karissa Decosse (Binghamton, N.Y./Windsor) paced Cazenovia with nine kills and 13 digs. Freshman setter Taryn Anderson (Nephi, Utah/Juab) had seven kills and senior middle hitter Aniya Adams (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) added five kills and a block. Freshman setter Aubriana Boyce (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) totaled 17 assists and nine digs.
 
Prior to the contest, the Bears honored seniors Enma Bautista (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport), Mackenzie Fischer (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley), Myers, Ader, Murphy, Olejnik and Hawthorne.
 
Potsdam wraps up the season at the Skidmore Invitational this weekend with three matches. The Bears face Union College at 6 p.m. on Friday before squaring off with RIT at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the host Thoroughbreds at 2 p.m.
