SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's volleyball team (15-11) rallied back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Union College (10-14) 3-2 (14-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-11) in their first matchup of the Skidmore Invitational. Senior outside hitter
Mikayla Myers (Gloversville, N.Y./Mayfield) posted a team-high 11 kills with seven digs. Senior outside hitter
Jessica Ader (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) recorded 10 kills, a team-high 23 digs, and four service aces during the contest.
Sophomore outside hitter
Marissa Wagoner (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added 10 kills and one block. Sophomore middle hitter
Santara Hart (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) chipped in six kills while senior outside hitter
Abygail Olejnik (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) also had six kills with 11 digs. Junior setter
Kendall Jones (Parker, Colo./Elizabeth) had three more kills to round out the Bears' offense. Senior outside hitter
Mackenzie Fischer (Cottekill, N.Y./Rondout Valley) registered two service aces and 20 digs. Senior setter
Colleen Murphy (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) totaled a team-high 25 assists and freshman
Sophia Layer (Winthrop, N.Y./Potsdam) tallied 16 assists to compliment her teammate. Junior
Sophia Rowny (Glenville, N.Y./Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake) recorded one block on the evening.
Shannon McGrath led the Dutchmen with a game-high 25 kills with 18 digs. Teammates Keara Page and Farah Elgala tallied 15 and 8 kills, respectively. Denali Douglas posted a team-high 20 digs while Georgia Pool had 10 digs. Haley Kresch registered 31 assists and Brooke Fleming recorded 21 assists and 11 digs.
The win tonight clinches Potsdam's 15th win of the season and their first winning season since 2012. The 15 wins matches their best win total under head coach
Josh Stokes.
The Bears return to action tomorrow when they face RIT at 10 a.m. and host Skidmore College at 2 p.m. as part of the Skidmore Invitational.
