Trevor Veneklase opened the scoring just 1:59 into the contest to give the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead. Potsdam countered on the power play at 12:34. Loran evened the contest with helpers from sophomore defenseman

The Red Dragons put the game away with three goals in the middle stanza. Cameron Knowlton struck at 8:43. Veneklase notched his second at 9:32 and Nate Berke made it 5-1 at the 13-minute mark. Friedland stopped another 14 shots in the second period.
Zack Smith scored a power-play goal just 23 seconds into the third period. He then repeated the feat at 10:45 to close the scoring at 7-1. Friedland added another 15 stops to his total.
Friedland finished with 40 saves in his first Potsdam start. Luca Durante made 31 stops for the victory. Potsdam was 1-for-10 on the power play and Cortland went 2-for-9.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow night when they head to Oswego State for a 7 p.m. showdown with the 10th-ranked Lakers.
