Bears bow to No. 10 Lakers

OSWEGO, N.Y.—10th-ranked Oswego State (2-1, 2-0 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam men's hockey team (0-3, 0-2) 5-2 on Saturday evening. Sophomore forward Garrett McArthur (London, Ontario/Markham Royals) and sophomore defenseman Drew Rose (Brasher Falls, N.Y./Utica Jr. Comets) each scored for the Bears.

The Lakers scored three times in the first period. Shane Bull netted the first marker at 2:33. Conor Smart struck at 13:41 and Bull added a second at 16:36. Bears senior goalie Connor Green (New Port Richey, Fla./Tampa Bay Juniors) made 15 saves in the first period.
 
Alex DiCarlo made it 4-0 Lakers just 2:07 into the second periods. Potsdam then fought its way back into the contest. McArthur buried an unassisted goal at 10:08. At 16:31, Rose got the Bears back within two with a power-play goal. Senior forward Nick Alfieri (Buffalo, N.Y./Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and graduate student Michael McArthur (St. Thomas, Ontario/Oswego State) assisted on the goal. Green had nine more saves in the second and Potsdam was in striking distance.
 
Each team had two power-play opportunities in the third period, but were unable to capitalize. At 10:49, Ryan Bunka scored the contest's last goal.
 
Green finished with 38 saves and Cal Schell earned the win with nine stops in the first period. Richie Parent allowed two goals and stopped five shots in the last two periods. Potsdam was 1-for-5 on the power play and the Lakers went 0-for-3.
 
The Bears are back in action next Friday at 7 p.m. when they host No. 2 SUNY Geneseo in their home opener.
