Bears sweep Express, Gators at Wells Tri-Match

AURORA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's volleyball team (7-11) swept both Wells College (1-11) and Russell Sage College (4-13) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Wells Tri-Match. Senior outside hitter Joe Zimmerman (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) led the Bears with 27 kills and six blocks. Junior outside hitter Zaire Rogers (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Cheektowaga) had 18 kills and 10 digs.
 
In the opener with the host Express, Potsdam swept three competitive sets by 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20 scores. Zimmerman led the Bears with match-high 13 kills and five blocks. Rogers had nine kills and six digs. Sophomore middle Jason Hendler (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) registered six kills and three blocks. Senior setter Alec Roy (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) finished with a contest best 30 assists and three aces. Senior libero Keven Sanchez (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) had seven digs.
 
Connor Garvey paced Wells with 11 kills and four digs. Riley Mahoney had seven kills and seven digs. Christian Hahn totaled five kills, three blocks and an aces. Cooper Colesante had 26 assists, six blocks, four digs and an ace.
 
Against the Gators, Potsdam captured 25-15, 25-14 and 25-21 wins. Zimmerman again led both teams with 14 kills along with three aces and nine digs. Rogers had another nine kills and four digs. Roy had two blocks and five digs. Sophomore setter Michael Anderson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) recorded a career-high 31 assists.
 
Andrew Samson, Corey Topple and Hailu Mikhail led Russell Sage with five kills each. Ryan Jennings had 15 assists and four digs. Topple also had six digs.
 
The Bears look to keep their hot streak intact when they head to Massachusetts for three matches next weekend. They face Regis on Friday at 7 p.m. before opening NECC play at Eastern Nazarene on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Lesley at noon on Sunday.
