Madison McCormick (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Heuvelton) with a sacrifice fly. The Bears took advantage of a two-run error and a passed ball grab a 14-11 lead in the top of the eighth. However, the Kangaroos rallied for four runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning to walk off with the win. Canton left fielder Madison Austin singled to plate the tying and winning runs.
Potsdam junior first baseman
Anna Grottola (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) was 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI. Moscarello went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI. McCormick finished 2-for-4 with three runs.
Sophomore
Anna Brown (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) (0-6) was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks in the last 1.2 innings. Senior
Sierra Ashley (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) started for the Bears, pitching two innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. Freshman
Rebecca Holmes (Lawtons, N.Y./North Collins) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks in the middle 3.2 innings.
Canton second baseman Selena Tasli was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Centerfielder Angelina LoPiccolo was 2-for-5 with four RBI and a run. Catcher Mackenzie Currie and first baseman Jordan Knapp were each 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Pitcher Alaina Beane was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Beane (1-7) went the distance for Canton, allowing only four earned runs on 12 hits.
In the finale, the Roos built a 7-1 lead and held on for the 9-6 win. Canton scored four runs on three hits in the first inning. They tacked on one in the second and with an RBI single from Knapp. The Bears got on the board with a double steal in the top of the fourth that saw Brandt come home. Kat Tompkins (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) closed the gap to 7-3. Canton answered in the bottom of the inning adding runs on a bases loaded hit batsman and walk and it was 9-3. Moscarello doubled in Brandt in the top of the seventh and sophomore centerfielder
Kelsey Bennett (Hammond, N.Y./Hammond) knocked in senior catcher
Hailey LaGiudice (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) and Moscarello with a double to close the scoring.
Brandt was 2-for-4 with two runs and Moscarello was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Brown (0-7) allowed five runs on six hits and four walks in 2.0 innings. Ashley allowed two runs on a hit and two walks in 1.2 and Holmes allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in 2.1.
Austin was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Currie was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI. Chavarri was 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI and three walks. Chavarri (1-7) allowed six runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out seven in her win.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they host Clarkson University for two games beginning at 3 p.m.
