Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hawks edge Bears, 2-1

HENNIKER, N.H.—Roger Williams University (2-2) downed the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-3) 2-1 in the second round of the New England College Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward Sarah Emmi (Huntington, N.Y./John Glenn) scored the Bears and senior goalkeeper Chloe Gordon (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) made five saves in her first start of the season

The majority of the first half was a defensive contest with few scoring chances. The Hawks slowly built an 8-3 advantage in shots. Gordon stopped four shots, but Roger Williams broke through at 42:37. Grace Kelly launched a corner kick into the box and Sofie Morris knocked it home for a 1-0 lead. Hawks goalie Coco Marrelli stopped all three shots she faced.

In the 56th minute, Rogers Williams struck again on another corner kick. Morris notched her second on another assist from Kelly. Just over 10 minutes later, Emmi cut the lead in half after the Bears were awarded a penalty kick. Potsdam kept the pressure on, but Marrelli kept the Bears off the board the rest of the way with seven more saves.

The Bears are back in action on Tuesday as Utica University comes to town at 6 p.m.
